Tunnel Project Manager
About the Role
We are partnering with a specialist engineering consultancy that forms a key part of the Owner’s Engineer team on a major, high-profile tunnelling project on the East Coast. They are seeking an accomplished Senior Tunnelling & Geotechnical Engineer with extensive experience in deep tunnel design, geotechnical engineering, and technical design review for large-scale infrastructure projects.
This is a rare opportunity to work on a landmark project with significant national visibility, alongside a highly respected team of technical experts.
Key Responsibilities

Lead geotechnical and tunnelling design review activities on behalf of the Owner’s Engineer team.

Provide technical oversight on deep tunnel alignment, excavation methods, ground behaviour, support systems, and construction sequencing.

Review and challenge contractor and designer submissions to ensure compliance with project requirements, industry best practice, and safety standards.

Identify and manage geotechnical and tunnelling risks throughout the project lifecycle.

Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, client representatives, and contractors.

Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers within the consultancy team.

Attend site inspections, technical workshops, and progress review meetings as required.
Requirements

Extensive experience in deep tunnels, underground works, and geotechnical engineering within major infrastructure or transportation projects.

Strong background in design review, technical assurance, and interpreting complex geotechnical data.

Proven track record working on large tunnelling or underground construction projects (e.g., water conveyance tunnels, metro systems, major utility tunnels).

Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related discipline; postgraduate qualifications preferred.

Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.

Ability to work within a multidisciplinary Owner’s Engineer or client-side environment.
