About the Role

We are partnering with a specialist engineering consultancy that forms a key part of the Owner’s Engineer team on a major, high-profile tunnelling project on the East Coast. They are seeking an accomplished Senior Tunnelling & Geotechnical Engineer with extensive experience in deep tunnel design, geotechnical engineering, and technical design review for large-scale infrastructure projects.

This is a rare opportunity to work on a landmark project with significant national visibility, alongside a highly respected team of technical experts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead geotechnical and tunnelling design review activities on behalf of the Owner’s Engineer team.

  • Provide technical oversight on deep tunnel alignment, excavation methods, ground behaviour, support systems, and construction sequencing.

  • Review and challenge contractor and designer submissions to ensure compliance with project requirements, industry best practice, and safety standards.

  • Identify and manage geotechnical and tunnelling risks throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, client representatives, and contractors.

  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers within the consultancy team.

  • Attend site inspections, technical workshops, and progress review meetings as required.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in deep tunnels, underground works, and geotechnical engineering within major infrastructure or transportation projects.

  • Strong background in design review, technical assurance, and interpreting complex geotechnical data.

  • Proven track record working on large tunnelling or underground construction projects (e.g., water conveyance tunnels, metro systems, major utility tunnels).

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related discipline; postgraduate qualifications preferred.

  • Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.

  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary Owner’s Engineer or client-side environment.
