Technical Director / Asia / Tunnel
About the Role
I'm looking to recruit a Technical Director to lead technical direction of complex tunnel, underground, and geotechnical infrastructure projects across India. Provide engineering leadership, oversee multidisciplinary teams, manage key client relationships, and contribute to the growth of my clients India's underground infrastructure practice.
You will serve as the technical authority for feasibility studies, Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), detailed design, and construction-stage engineering services for complex tunnel and underground infrastructure projects. Lead and oversee multidisciplinary engineering activities encompassing geotechnical, structural, tunnelling, and civil design, ensuring compliance with national and international codes, standards, and industry best practices.
Provide technical leadership across a wide range of underground works, including TBM, NATM/SEM, drill-and-blast tunnels, deep excavations, shafts, caverns, and underground transportation and hydropower infrastructure. Direct and mentor multidisciplinary engineering teams, establish robust QA/QC procedures, and coordinate with the client's global specialists and subject matter experts to deliver technically sound and innovative solutions.
Act as the principal technical interface with clients, government authorities, contractors, and key stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring effective collaboration and successful project delivery. Contribute to business growth by leading technical proposals, strengthening strategic client relationships, and identifying new project opportunities.
Provide expert technical advisory services during construction, including design reviews, engineering assessments, risk management, value engineering, and independent design checking. Represent the client in India at industry forums, technical committees, academic engagements, and professional conferences, promoting technical excellence and enhancing the organisation's industry profile.
Requirements
B.E./B.Tech in Civil Engineering with Masters or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering, Rock Mechanics, Structural Engineering, or Underground Construction. More than 20 years of professional experience, including significant leadership responsibility on major underground infrastructure, tunnelling, or geotechnical projects.
Proven experience in design and delivery of TBM and/or conventional tunnelling projects, underground structures, metro, railway, highway, water, or hydropower infrastructure. Chartered Engineer, Fellow, or equivalent professional accreditation preferred.
Strong technical leadership, client management, business development, and stakeholder engagement capabilities. Experience working with multidisciplinary and international project teams.
Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to represent the company at senior client and industry levels. Past experience of working in India is desirable.
