About the Role

Key Responsibilities
1. Tunnel Design Development

Produce and review design calculations, drawings, and specifications for:

TBM tunnels (EPB, Slurry, Hard Rock)

SEM/NATM tunnels and caverns

Launching/receiving shafts

Cross-passages

Station caverns and mined tunnels

Develop structural and geotechnical design models (2D/3D FEM, analytical, empirical).

2. Geotechnical and Structural Analysis

Perform detailed analysis of ground–structure interaction for various ground conditions.

Conduct numerical modelling (e.g., PLAXIS, FLAC, MIDAS, RS2, Abaqus).

Evaluate settlement, convergence, lining stresses, and support requirements.

3. Design Documentation

Prepare design reports, calculations, drawings, and technical specifications.

Provide input for tender submissions, feasibility studies, and constructability assessments.

Manage design revision cycles and ensure compliance with project standards.

4. Coordination & Interface Management

Interface closely with structural, geotechnical, MEP, alignment, and temporary works teams.

Support design coordination with contractors, clients, and third-party stakeholders.

Participate in multi-disciplinary design reviews, constructability meetings, and HAZIDs.

5. Construction Support & Technical Assurance

Provide site support during excavation, lining installation, and TBM drives.

Review monitoring data, settlement trends, and ground movement predictions.

Support change requests, design adjustments, and responses to technical queries (RFIs).

Participate in risk assessments, method statement reviews, and design verification.

6. Standards & Compliance

Ensure all designs comply with relevant international/metro standards, including:

Eurocodes, BS/EN, AASHTO, ACI, AREMA, AISC (as applicable)

Local metro authority standards

Project-specific design criteria

Ensure designs incorporate safety-by-design, durability, and long-term performance.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience
Essential

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field.

Minimum 8 years of tunnel design experience on major infrastructure projects.

Proven experience in both TBM tunnel design (EPB/slurry/rock) and SEM/NATM tunnel design.

Experience working on metro, rail, or large national infrastructure projects.

Strong numerical modelling skills (2D and 3D FEM).

Solid knowledge of ground-support design, segmental linings, temporary works, and tunnel waterproofing.

Ability to produce high-quality technical reports and design deliverables.
