Senior Geologist – Major NATM Tunnel Project | New York, USA

My client is seeking an experienced Senior Geologist to join a major tunnel infrastructure project in New York. This is an excellent opportunity to play a leading technical role on a challenging NATM (New Austrian Tunnelling Method)project, acting as the Designer's Representative and providing expert guidance throughout the construction phase.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and coordinate the on-site team, including geologists, tunnel inspectors, and site supervisors.
  • Oversee the implementation and compliance of excavation and ground support works in accordance with the Required Excavation and Support (RES) specifications.
  • Ensure all construction activities are executed in line with the approved design, project specifications, and relevant quality and safety standards.
  • Assess and interpret geological and hydrogeological conditions throughout tunnel excavation.
  • Prepare and review daily, weekly, monthly, and final project reports.
  • Work closely with the construction management team, designers, and key project stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Monitor construction progress and provide technical recommendations to optimize excavation methods, sequencing, and overall project performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geology, Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 15 years' experience on NATM tunnel construction projects.
  • Previous experience working on large-scale international tunnelling projects.
  • Strong understanding of NATM construction methods, excavation techniques, ground support systems, and tunnelling equipment.
  • Extensive experience assessing geological and hydrogeological conditions in underground construction.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage multidisciplinary site teams.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach with excellent organizational and communication skills.
