Mechanical Engineer (Mid-Level) – Hydropower Project
About the Role
Key Responsibilities
Design & Engineering
-
Review and develop mechanical designs for hydropower systems, including turbines, generators (mechanical interfaces), valves, gates, penstocks, and auxiliary equipment

Prepare and review technical specifications, data sheets, and drawings

Ensure designs comply with relevant international standards, codes, and project requirements
-
Participate in value engineering and constructability reviews
Procurement & Vendor Coordination
-
Support procurement processes, including technical bid evaluations and vendor selection
-
Review supplier drawings, calculations, and manufacturing documentation
-
Coordinate with equipment suppliers and manufacturers to resolve technical issues
Construction & Installation Support

Provide on-site engineering support during fabrication, installation, and erection of mechanical equipment

Review method statements and installation procedures
-
Monitor construction progress and quality, ensuring compliance with specifications
-
Identify and resolve mechanical interface issues with civil and electrical works
Testing & Commissioning
-
Support mechanical testing, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities
-
Review and approve test procedures and results
-
Assist with performance testing and defect resolution
Project Coordination & Reporting

Coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams and contractors

Prepare technical reports, progress updates, and engineering documentation

Support health, safety, and environmental requirements on site
Qualifications & Experience
Education
-
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
-
Professional registration or progress toward professional certification is desirable
Experience
-
Typically 4–8 years of experience in mechanical engineering
-
Experience in hydropower projects or similar heavy infrastructure (e.g. dams, water treatment plants, thermal power, oil & gas, or large industrial facilities)

Experience with rotating equipment, valves, piping, and structural steel interfaces
Technical Skills

Knowledge of hydropower mechanical systems (turbines, gates, penstocks, auxiliary systems)

Familiarity with relevant standards (e.g. IEC, ISO, ASME or equivalent)

Ability to read and review mechanical drawings and calculations
-
Experience with CAD and engineering software (e.g. AutoCAD, SolidWorks or similar)

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Good communication skills for working with multidisciplinary teams

Ability to work independently with moderate supervision
-
Willingness to travel or work on-site as required by the project
