About the Role

My client is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Lead Associate Tunnel Engineer with a minimum of 15 years of relevant professional experience to join their team. The successful candidate will play a key role in the planning, design, and delivery of tunnel, underground facility, and water/wastewater infrastructure projects, while supporting business development initiatives and expanding our presence within the New England market.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in underground infrastructure engineering, including the design and construction of water and wastewater conveyance systems, and will demonstrate proven leadership capabilities in both technical project delivery and client development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, design, and delivery of tunnel and underground infrastructure projects, including water and wastewater facilities.
  • Support and drive business development activities, client engagement, and project pursuits throughout the New England region.
  • Manage multidisciplinary project teams and provide technical leadership on complex underground engineering assignments.
  • Prepare and review engineering studies, technical reports, design calculations, and project documentation.
  • Develop contract documents, including engineering drawings, technical specifications, and construction packages.
  • Review contractor submittals, requests for information (RFIs), shop drawings, and other construction-related documentation.
  • Mentor and supervise junior engineers and technical staff, fostering professional development and technical excellence.
  • Coordinate office and field activities, including site visits, inspections, and construction support services.
  • Ensure adherence to established quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) procedures and engineering standards.
  • Collaborate with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related discipline is required.
  • Master's Degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration in Massachusetts, or the ability to obtain licensure within one year of employment.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in the planning, design, and delivery of tunnel and underground infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing the design of complex underground engineering projects.
  • Proven business development experience and established industry relationships within the water and wastewater infrastructure sector.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent assignments, priorities, schedules, and budgets.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, and developing junior engineering staff.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, technical writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and maintain strong client relationships.

Preferred Experience

  • Design and construction support for water conveyance tunnels, wastewater tunnels, shafts, deep excavations, and underground structures.
  • Experience with trenchless technologies, tunnelling methods, and underground construction practices.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements applicable to water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
  • Established professional network within the New England engineering and infrastructure market.
